Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer or Teaching Fellow in Animation & VFX in the Department of Media Arts.

The Department invites applicants for the above post to take a leading role in the department’s development of new animation & VFX pathways in its leading undergraduate programmes. Candidates are expected to bring a significant level of industry knowledge, experience and conceptual, creative and technical skills to their teaching. The post is available as either Lecturer (research and teaching) or Teaching Fellow (teaching focused) appointment. The successful candidate will deliver Animation/VFX courses to Undergraduate students with a commitment to pedagogic development and innovation. Candidates applying for the Lecturer (research and teaching) pathway should have a developing record of high quality research and/or the ability to translate professional production experience in animation into a viable research plan.

The successful candidate will work across a dynamic department that spans theory and practice, creative and critical research that was ranked in the top 10 UK institutions for media research in the REF2014. As such, the role requires the post holder to bring a critical knowledge of current industry practice in Animation/VFX to the department. The essential qualification for this role is educated to PHD level or equivalent or near completion.

The successful candidate will play an important role in developing animation as a specialism of students on both our flagship BA Film, Television & Digital Production degree as well as our new BA/BSc Digital Media Culture & Technology pathways. They will have a primary strength in animation, primarily as applied to film and television, with some ability to contribute to the teaching of VFX and related areas of post-production. Ideally, the appointed candidate will offer experience in course design and development that will enable animation to grow as a specialism and pathway within the department.
