Salary is in the range £41,458 to £49,059 per annum inclusive of London Allowance (Grade 8)

Applications are invited for two fixed-term (22 months and 36 months) teaching-focused posts at Lecturer level in the Department of Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London. The successful applicant will join a Department with an outstanding reputation for its teaching and student support, with some of the very strongest ratings for student satisfaction (NSS).  The successful candidate will be dynamic and enthusiastic with the ability to inform and inspire students, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The Department has a strong community ethos, and mentoring and further training will be available to the successful candidate. 

The posts are focused on Political and/or Development Geography. The successful candidates will contribute to existing courses, such as our Year 2 Political Geography module and our Year 1 Geographical Techniques course and will deliver Year 3 modules drawing on their research specialisms. The successful candidates will also contribute to the Departmental fieldwork programme; this may be our Year 1 Spain fieldtrip and/or a Year 2 fieldtrip (UK or overseas-based). The successful candidate will be a personal and academic tutor for Year 1 students and supervise undergraduate dissertations. She/he will contribute to our MSc teaching in Geopolitics and Security and/or Practising Sustainable Development through leading seminars and workshops and by supervising dissertation research. While these are teaching-focused posts, with no formal research requirement, the successful candidates will be encouraged to engage with the wider research culture of the Department, particularly the Politics, Development and Sustainability group. 

These are full-time, fixed-term posts, available from 1 September 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
 
These post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London. The successful applicant will join one of the UK’s strongest Geography Departments, with research specialisms in cultural and historical geography, development, environmental sustainability, geopolitics and Quaternary science.  It was ranked 2nd in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and also has some of the best teaching ratings from students for any discipline (UK National Student Survey). The Department has a strong community ethos and commitment to engaged teaching, with a wide-ranging programme of fieldwork built into undergraduate teaching.
