Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Centre for Applied English Studies (Ref.: 201700192)
Applications are invited for tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in the Centre for Applied English Studies, to commence on July 1, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Applied Linguistics or a closely related field. They must have experience of teaching courses in Applied Linguistics and/or TESOL at Masters level and in English for Academic Purposes to undergraduate students in a range of disciplines. They should also have a good publication record with potential to attract research grants. Experience of postgraduate supervision would be a considerable advantage. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the teaching of pronunciation, second language acquisition or corpus linguistics in language teaching. The appointee will be required to teach a range of English for Academic Purposes courses at the undergraduate level, to teach on the Centre’s M.A., to supervise M.A. and doctoral students and to carry out research in aspects of language teaching and learning which are relevant to the programmes of the Centre. He/She will be expected to make a major contribution to academic and administrative leadership. Information about the Centre can be obtained at http://caes.hku.hk/.
A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
