Organismic and Evolutionary Biology
The Girguis lab at Harvard University invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral research position in microbial ecological physiology. The primary research focus is on fundamentally understanding the evolution, ecology and metabolic activity of microbes capable of extracellular electron transfer.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise and hands-on experience in high-throughput metagenomic and metatranscriptomic analyses including microbial community and functional profiling, proficient in a programming language (Perl, Python and/or R) and familiar with high performance computing. Experience with molecular biological methods such as DNA & RNA purification, PCR and sequencing library preparation is highly desirable. A robust publication record that demonstrate the applicant’s capacities is also highly desirable. A PhD in a related field is required at the time of appointment.
The successful candidate will work closely with research groups in the Dept. of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (home department) as well as colleagues at the University of Minnesota and The University of Southern California. Some travel may be required, though the frequency and duration are negotiable.
