Senior Lecturer in Philosophy
Senior Lecturer in Philosophy
School of Humanities, University of Dundee
Fulltime and permanent
Grade 9 £49,772 to £55,998 pa
The School of Humanities is appointing several new posts at Lecturer and Senior Lecturer level to support the development of a distinctive new liberal arts and interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research. This will build new links between the humanities, the arts, and the sciences. If you are ambitious in your research and teaching goals, and if your work transcends traditional disciplinary perspectives, then we would love to hear how you can help us grow and flourish as we seek to make Humanities at Dundee a destination of international renown.
We are seeking to consolidate our existing strengths, and to develop a unique programme which will support the University of Dundee’s new Liberal Arts model. We are building research and teaching links between the humanities, the arts, and the sciences, and we are looking for a Senior Lecturer who can provide focus and leadership in developing these areas.
The appointment will complement our existing core specialisation in Continental European Philosophy, and strengthen our specific focus areas of philosophy of art and aesthetics, and philosophy of science and technology. Applicants should have excellent teaching ability in Continental European Philosophy, and a teaching and research specialisation in either (or both) art and aesthetics, or science and technology. We have a particular need for someone able to teach in philosophy of biology and the life sciences. While our teaching and research strategy is centred in the Continental tradition, the Philosophy programme at Dundee embraces a pluralist ethos. Applicants who work in Analytic or other philosophical traditions are welcome to apply if they also have a strong and demonstrated capacity to teach in Continental philosophy modules, and to contribute to the research strategy of the Scottish Centre for Continental Philosophy. Evidence of innovative teaching will be looked upon favourably. Capacity to teach and research in feminist philosophy and gender theory would be a distinct advantage.
In addition to teaching and administrative duties, you will be expected to undertake excellent research with demonstrable impact as well as provide excellent leadership along with good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others. Pursuit of external grant funding and regularly publishing research papers in top ranked journals are essential, along with a strategy for knowledge exchange. You will also be expected to recruit and supervise research students, and to contribute to the University’s Enterprise, Employability and Entrepreneurship agenda.
Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Aliki Varvogli at email@example.com
Closing date: 29 March 2017.
Interviews will take place May 2017.
