Professor of Health Sciences within ageing, health of the elderly, geriatric care and service development
The Faculty of Health Sciences in Oslo offers a 100 % position as Professor of Health Sciences within ageing, health of the elderly, geriatric care and service development from August 1 2017.
The professorship is affiliated with the Master’s Degree Programme «Health- and Social Care with the Elderly» at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Oslo. The Master’s Degree Programme is part of a larger academic environment and collaborates across faculties at VID Specialized University. The Faculty of Health Sciences in Oslo has 800 students. The faculty has campuses in Bergen and Sandnes and holds an impressive portfolio with a great potential for further development, coordination and collaboration.
The Faculty of Health Sciences in Oslo offers a full-time Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Nursing and four interdisciplinary specialization programmes within the disciplines of mental healthcare, addiction problems, psychosocial work with children and youth and vitality training.
The PhD Programme in Diakonia, Values and Professional Practice is located at the Diakonhjemmet Campus.
The position’s objective
The aim of the professorship is to enhance the academic environment and strengthen the collaboration between the various faculties of the Master’s Degree Programmes at the University. Another aim is to strengthen research and systematic knowledge development in collaboration with Diakonhjemmet Hospital, Health Services to the Elderly, the nursing home «Sagenehjemmet» and «Omsorg+» which is affiliated with «Diakonhjemmet Hage», and other national and international partners.

Requirements and skills profile
Applications are welcome from candidates with professorial competence, primarily within the health sciences. Special emphasis is placed on:
- Expertise within the disciplines of ageing, health, geriatric care, service development together with collaborative inter-professional abilities.
- Research activities and publishing in the last 10 years
- Experience with the initiation and management of research- and development projects
- Experience from national and international research- and development projects
The University is looking for someone with academic and personal abilities to participate in the further development of ageing, health, geriatric care, service development and inter-professional collaboration as a discipline and field of research. Primarily, we are looking for someone with academic experience and pedagogical skills within the major parts of the discipline (active ageing, gerontology and geriatric care with specialization in service development and inter-professional collaboration) and who is motivated to further develop the Master’s Degree Programme and participate in teaching at all levels.

The position involves teaching at the faculty’s Bachelor’s- and Master’s Degree Programmes, and the applicant is strongly advised to have a good command of both spoken and written Norwegian or another Scandinavian language in addition to English. Fixed employment requires the mastering of Norwegian within two years, which must be documented by passing «The Bergen Test» with at least 450 points.
