Director of Communications and Advocacy

The University of Nottingham has a fantastic opportunity for an outstanding and exceptionally talented Director of Communications and Advocacy to join the External Relations Department.

As a truly global institution ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide, we are looking for an ambitious and proactive individual to actively manage, motivate and inspire the communications and advocacy team to create a sector-leading function within External Relations.

The remit and scope of the External Relations Department has significantly expanded in the last two years in terms of size and complexity of responsibilities. With 242 dedicated members of staff, we have responsibility for all communications, marketing and student recruitment activities across the entire University. This new role will lead a newly formed team comprising the press office/media relations, internal communications and public affairs.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMCO), the successful candidate will have vision and focus, be decisive and resourceful, and have the inspiration and tenacity to succeed. We are looking for individuals with drive, energy and a strong track record of delivery and success, with extensive experience at a senior level and significant expertise in their field.

The University is looking for an impressive leader who is passionate and fulfilled by what they do, keen to learn, and can work collaboratively with the External Relations senior team to support the CMCO in creating a sector-leading Department that achieves targets and delivers to the highest standard.

The successful candidate will possess outstanding communication and leadership skills to drive and promote the University’s reputation on a global stage. We are looking for a strategic thinking individual who finds innovative and creative solutions to support the delivery of institutional objectives. Strong networks with the ability to significantly enhance and manage the University’s profile is essential, as is experience in developing advocacy.

A great team needs great leaders.
