Postdoctoral Fellow - the molecular fossil record of early life
The Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES) invites outstanding scholars to submit an application for a postdoctoral research associate position in the Palaeobiogeochemistry program. We are looking for an enthusiastic, early career researcher with ambition for a scientific career.
The successful applicant will join the project "Lost world of complex life: The search for molecular traces of our earliest primordial ancestors". Our team is at the verge of a major breakthrough in the search for primordial biochemicals in the ancient rock record. The postdoctoral researcher will work within a team to identify hydrocarbons and other compounds preserved in ancient sedimentary rocks with the potential for amazing discoveries. She or he is ideally an organic geochemist, biogeochemist or organic chemist with strong experience in the isolation of compounds such as hydrocarbons and lipids from complex mixtures using chromatographic techniques, and is familiar with the characterization of small molecules using GC-MS and GC-IRMS techniques.
Qualifications and Skills: The candidate must have received a PhD in geochemistry, chemistry, environmental sciences or related fields. A strong peer-reviewed publication record and proficiency in spoken and written English are valuable merits.
