Applications are invited for a Professorial post to join the Power Electronics, Machines and Control Group (PEMC), working at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo China (UNNC). The group are looking for a talented, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a strong track record of research income, internationally leading publications and teaching ability to join our growing team.
The Power Electronics, Machines and Control Group in Nottingham University is one of the largest of its kind in the World with 18 Academics (Faculty), 45 Postdoctoral Researchers and 65 PhD Students. Research is conducted at both the UK and UNNC campuses and in conjunction with many international partners. It has a current research portfolio of > $30M USD and undertakes research across a wide range of areas including: Power Device Integration and Component Technologies; Power Converter Topologies, Power Conversion Systems and Systems Modelling; Electrical Machine Design, Analysis, Manufacturing and Electrical Drive Systems. Application orientated research is mainly targeted towards the electrification of transport (air and terrestrial) and future energy systems. Research funding comes from a diverse range of sources including research councils, government bodies and industry. The group hosts the EPSRC centre for Power Electronics which is the UK’s internationally recognized provider of world-leading, underpinning power electronics research, combining the UK’s best academic talent. The group also hosts the UK’s Advanced Propulsion Centre Spoke for Power Electronics as well as a number of award-winning joint centres with industrial partners including GE, Cummins, Alstom and BestMotion.
The PEMC Group has established a strong research presence at UNNC from its inception, mainly focused on Electrical Machines to date, which is fully integrated with the UK activity. This has seen an investment of over > $10M USD in state of the art laboratory and workshop facilities. These include fully instrumented electrical drive dynamometers for aerospace, marine and automotive applications, high bandwidth precision oscilloscopes and power meters, variable frequency power supplies, power cycling power electronics testers and environmental test chambers.
The current post in Power Electronics is part of the University of Nottingham’s strategy to further expand the PEMC activities at UNNC and is funded by investment from the University jointly with the Ningbo government reflecting importance and the significant opportunities in the subject area. The successful applicant will lead the Power Electronics activities at UNNC in collaboration with colleagues across both campuses and will be responsible for growing the Power Electronics team at UNNC. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Candidates should have reached research distinction in Power Electronics and possess strong leadership capability. A joint UK/UNNC appointment may be considered for candidates where that is appropriate.
Salary is negotiable depending on skills and experience and will be within the professorial range. In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.
The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of up to five years starting 1 March 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.
