Job Description

Under supervision of a qualified medical physicist, responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Quality control (QC) testing of diagnostic x-ray units, protective lead apparel, and other equipment including entry of QC data into test report templates and databases. Maintains up to date test report files, inventory of diagnostic imaging units, physics QC test equipment, calibration records, and protective lead apparel. Sends out QC test equipment for calibration and repair according to schedule. Participates in the radiation badge dosimetry program and the Office of Environmental Health & Safety on-call response program.

Required Skills

Minimum qualifications are either a bachelors degree (preferred) in a hard science (e.g., physics, engineering, or equivalent) or an associate degree with licensed radiologic technologist certification.

At least 1 year experience working with x-ray equipment preferred.

The candidate must be computer literate and proficient with common software packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Programing skills a plus.

They must also be self-motivated, have solid written and verbal communication skills, be proficient in intermediate algebra and trigonometry, be detail oriented, and able to work as a team player. Must be able to lift test objects weighing up to 30 - 40 lbs. This position requires completion of a pre-placement physical questionnaire and on-site physical and medical surveillance upon hire.

ON CALL REQUIREMENTS: This position is required to participate in the EHS on-call emergency response program. When on-call, the incumbent serves as first responder and as such is responsible for exercising professional judgment to independently determine response phases and mobilization of internal and external resources (BPD, BFD, EMS, regulatory agencies). Compares and evaluates possible courses of action and makes a decision after various possibilities have been considered and has the authority to make an independent choice and decision, free from immediate direction or supervision. While on-call, this position will be responsible for responding to calls in all buildings and areas and as such, employment is contingent upon initial and continued successful background checks
