The Faculty of Architecture is inviting applications for the tenured

Chair (W3) of Structural Design in Architecture

to be filled as soon as possible.

As one of the major schools of architecture in Germany, the Faculty of Architecture pursues an integrated approach combining analytical, research-oriented areas and the practical fields of design and planning, joining their different methods and practices. One of Germany’s eleven “universities of excellence”, TU Dresden provides ideal conditions for a highly attractive transdisciplinary research network, particularly through its close cooperation with research and cultural institutions outside university (DRESDEN-concept).

The successful candidate is expected to represent the field of Structural Design in Architecture with a commitment to both teaching and research. The area encompasses the teaching of fundamental principles necessary for the design and planning of structures, supplies competence for the design of new structural systems and deals with existing buildings in a responsible and sustainable manner.  It is important to the Faculty of Architecture that the candidate continues to further develop the established and renowned profile of this teaching and research area (masonry and adobe wall construction, historic preservation, sustainable building systems for wider applications, foundations of structural design, development of technical rules and standards, masonry yearbook). The professor will teach primarily in the Diploma programme in architecture. The applicant will be expected to participate in international cooperation and exchange programmes. The duties include participation in academic selfadministration.

Applicants should demonstrate outstanding professional abilities and special sensibilities for architectural structures and form and be able to address both architects and engineers. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching are expected and international experiences after graduation are desirable. A candidate’s readiness to offer occasional courses in English and to take up residency in Dresden is desirable. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements § 58 of the Act Governing Academic Freedom in Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Academic Freedom in Higher Education Act – SächsHSFG).

TU Dresden offers an excellent working environment in a lively academic community. The University seeks to employ more women professors. Hence we particularly encourage women to apply. Applications from disabled candidates or those with additional support needs are very welcome. TU Dresden is a certified family-friendly university and offers a dual career service.
