Applications are invited for a newly-created Professorship of Civil Engineering Science.  The successful candidate will have an outstanding research record that is internationally recognised and a strong track-record of grant acquisition.  He or she will be expected to pursue research of the highest standard and to provide leadership to colleagues working across the department and beyond.
It is anticipated that the role will focus on issues related to the structural application of novel or advanced materials either within elements of the built environment or more broadly in the provision of infrastructure. This could include consideration of the interaction between different structural elements, their whole life performance or impacts, modelling of the potential failure mechanisms associated with their use, or challenges associated with their adoption. 
The Professor will be expected to provide leadership and research support for research staff and students, and to provide inspirational academic leadership in teaching and curriculum development within the School of Civil Engineering and Surveying (
