DEPARTMENT OF LAND SURVEYING AND GEO-INFORMATICS
Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Land Surveying / Geo-Information Technology / Near-surface Geophysical Surveying on Underground Utilities
The Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) is widely considered as a centre of excellence in both education and research in Geomatics and related fields. The Department offers a range of academic programmes to both local and overseas students, including Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Geomatics (with three specialized streams: Land Surveying, Geo-Information Technology, and Utility Management and Surveying), Master of Science in Geomatics (with two specialized streams: Geographic Information System and Surveying) and Doctor of Philosophy. LSGI has a very strong research programme that encompasses research activities in the areas of urban informatics, spatial big data analytics, geographical information science, satellite positioning, ubiquitous positioning, photogrammetry and remote sensing, geodesy and geodynamics, environmental monitoring, geo-hazards studies, intelligent transport systems, smart city, utility system management, location-based services, geographical social science and near-surface geophysical survey. There are currently 22 academic staff, 11 supporting staff, 50 research staff and 50 PhD students in the Department. The total student number is over 500. The Department is seeking highly motivated and suitably qualified individuals with research expertise in one of the following areas: Geographic Information Science, Remote Sensing, Spatial Data Science, Spatial Statistics, Land Surveying and Urban Science.
The appointees will be required to (a) conduct researches that lead to high-quality publications and awards of external research grants; (b) conduct research in related areas and contribute to the development of the Department’s strategic research area of urban informatics, and its corresponding research direction in Spatial Big Data Modelling and Analytics, Smart Positioning and Mobility, and Urban Sensing and Measurement; (c) initiate, lead and participate in scholarly research in his/her area of expertise and be active in research leading to quality journal publications and in bidding for external research grants and projects; (d) undertake teaching duties in relevant subject areas at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; (e) participate in programme/curriculum planning, development and administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; (f) supervise student research projects and theses; and (g) undertake relevant administrative duties.
Applicants should (a) have a doctoral degree in a relevant area; (b) have strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research; (c) have a proven track record in research and academic achievements; (d) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills and have good interpersonal skills; and (e) demonstrate the potential for establishing significant externally funded research programmes. Applicants for appointment at Professor and Associate Professor level should have substantial years of relevant post-qualification experience with strong international academic profile and connections/international reputation in research. Candidates with less experience will be considered for appointment at a lower level.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate Professor and Professor levels.
