The School

The School of Economics, formerly the Department of Economics, has been offering courses since 1968.The School of Economics is one of the largest in the Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE). The School thrives on its growing excellence in high-impact research achievements. The School engages with stakeholders in the 12 member countries of the USP region on policy, research and consultancy. It takes a lead role in contributing to the community through national economy updates; research and consultancy; public policy workshops, training private sector executives and policy debates and development dialogues. The School offers courses in the areas of Economics, Official Statistics and Population and Demography studies.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will be required to provide academic leadership for the School in teaching, research and consultancy. The appointee will be expected to conduct and guide the development of the School’s profile, lecture in Economics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, engage in consultancy work, contribute to the administrative functions of the School, Faculty and the University. The incumbent will also participate in the School’s expanding flexible learning programme – including the development of multi-media instructional courses and materials.

The Person We Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

-           A PhD in the field of Economics;

-           Extensive teaching experience in Economics at tertiary level and a strong record of publications in leading economics journals;

-           Administrative and research experience;

-           A proven record of supervision of research students and academic leadership

Preference will be given to applicants with:

-           Familiarity with the field of Development Economics;

-           Record of consultancy and policy advice on issues related to developing countries;

-           Research and/or policy experience related to small island states;

-           Experience in senior leadership roles at the School or Faculty level.

Remuneration
The position is available for a term of 3 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

Salary Range: Professor FJ $129, 078 to FJ $139, 543 per

An inducement allowance may be paid to an exceptionally well qualified candidate.

In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate.
