About the role

An exciting new partnership between  UTS and the Centenary Institute, the Centre for  Inflammation Research has led to the creation of a new position that will see you charged with establishing a globally recognised program of inflammation research.

Reporting into the Dean of Science (UTS) in the first instance, with strong informal reporting lines to the Director of ithree at UTS and to the Executive Director (Centenary Institute), you will play a crucial role in helping the faculty build upon existing research strengths and further understanding the interface between infectious disease, inflammation and immunology.

Physically based at the Centenary Institute, you will be tasked with creating an interdisciplinary research centre; seeking research funding from national, international government and industry sources, supervising higher degree students, and disseminating research results through high quality peer-reviewed publications.

About the ithree institute and the Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science at UTS is one of the largest faculties at UTS in terms of total academic and support staff.

The ithree institute is a growing centre for excellence in research into mitigating the negative impacts of microbes on human and animal health, with particular emphasis on tackling the complex and urgent global health and food security threats associated with the spread of antimicrobial resistance in our environment.

ithree has key strengths and capabilities that make it well placed to contribute to international efforts and has a strong record in research translation. Our work is enabled by the use and development of cutting-edge technologies  in cell imaging, proteomics, Next Gen sequencing and genomics. This includes the world-leading Microbial Imaging Facility, with super resolution capabilities.

ithree researchers also have access to the UTS Data Arena which allows researchers to visually immerse themselves in their microscopy data. Our ability to generate knowledge and develop new tools, diagnostics and treatments will help to reduce morbidity and mortality caused by infectious diseases.

About the Centenary Institute

The Centenary Institute is an independent medical research institute specialising in understanding disease mechanisms and finding cures in the areas of cancer, inflammation and cardiovascular disease. The Centenary is located adjacent to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Charles Perkins Centre of Sydney University. It has a proud history of research and translation achievements and most recently it opened the ACRF Cancer Research Centre.

About you.

You will be a seasoned academic leader and researcher of international repute in the area of inflammation or chronic diseases, with a particular interest in working on infectious diseases.   With a PhD in a relevant area of Life Sciences, you will see yourself as an effective communicator able to liaise with stakeholders at a range of levels within the University and Centenary Institute. Whilst this is first and foremost a research role you will be an inspirational leader able to mentor other academics and students.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $ 179,363 pa (Level E)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.

This appointment will be on a fixed term full-time basis for 5 years.
