Established under the University of Tasmania Act (1889), the University of Tasmania is the fourth oldest university in Australia and the State's sole university. The University operates under the University of Tasmania Act (1992) and subsequent amendments to enable better compliance with the Voluntary Code of Best Practice for Governance of Australian Universities.
The Executive Director University Governance leads a specialist team to deliver high quality executive services to the Chancellor and University Council, Vice-Chancellor, Academic Senate and other executive committees. The Office of University Governance: facilitates the decision-making processes of the University; provides secretariat services; monitors the governance structure and recommends improvements; provides legal services; conducts internal audit and corporate risk processes; and ensures compliance and business continuity. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with the Vice-Chancellor and the Chancellor.
The Executive Director University Governance will bring: extensive experience in a senior governance role in a large organisation; a contemporary understanding of good practice in corporate governance; previous success in supporting executive committees; high level analytical thinking and problem solving skills; and ability to provide advice in a legislative or regulatory context. The successful applicant will be a confident and persuasive communicator, exemplify sound ethical and professional standards and ensure best practice in support of fairness, accountability, compliance and customer service. Membership of the Governance Institute of Australia or a similar professional body would be viewed favourably.
This full-time position is offered for a five year term and preferably based in Hobart.
