Grade 10, £57,284 - £67,700

It’s an exciting time to join the Carnegie School of Education. Our strategy is to embed research into everything we do but not just any research – we want to develop research that improves the life chances of children and young people, creating real impact in regional, national and international contexts. Rather than a narrow education focus, our research is truly interdisciplinary and innovative, embracing diverse areas such as boredom in higher education, teacher surveillance, children’s geographies and professional learning communities. We’re also committed to embedding our research into our extensive partnership, funding collaborative practitioner research in schools and nurseries, evaluating private sector corporate and social responsibility projects and supporting social enterprises to build capacity.

As part of this development, we are looking for an outstanding academic to join us as a Reader/Professor of Race and Education to build and lead a new research team in this field. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven track record of academic leadership through a combination of sustained output, income generation, innovation in professional practice, doctoral supervision and teaching across a range of levels in their area of expertise. As a School that is dedicated to improving outcomes for children and young people, we also want a Reader/Professor who is skilled at translating research into practice, working with schools, nurseries and community organisations on issues related to race and education, especially in collaborative research and co-creation projects. Finally, we’re seeking a colleague who can mentor newer researchers and support them in progressing their careers.

We welcome applications from all individuals and particularly from black and minority ethnic candidates as members of these groups are currently under-represented at this level of post. As race and education is a specialist area, we also welcome applications from candidates seeking their first research leadership post and will appoint at Reader or Professorial grade. All appointments will be based on merit.

Potential candidates are encouraged to make informal contact with the Dean of School, Professor Damien Page: Damien.Page@leedsbeckett.ac.uk or 0113 812 7582.
