About the role

This role contributes to La Trobe's Success and Retention Strategy by providing proactive and high quality advice to students, that is developmental in nature and supports students in meeting their personal educational goals. The Adviser will ensure that the provision of student advice and associated activities supports students at all stages of the student lifecycle, facilitating independence and self-direction, improving student engagement and aiding successful student outcomes. Located within the College Student Transition, Achievement and Retention Team, this role will identify environmental conditions that may positively or negatively influence student academic achievement and propose and implement improvement strategies.

Skills and Experience

  • An undergraduate degree in any area relevant to the role (eg. Counselling, career development, psychology, education, social work) with at least 4 years subsequent experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to empathise and understand student issues to help guide, support and coach them towards success.
  • Possess the skills and knowledge to create plans and improve strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage multiple stakeholder relationships.
