We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Allied Health academic researcher to a conjoint Level E appointment between the Faculty of Health Sciences, the University of Sydney and Northern Sydney Local Health District.

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Sydney is the largest and most comprehensive grouping of allied health professions, researchers and teachers within Australia. The faculty is a world leader in allied health research and education, and is acknowledged as a leading global hub of excellence in research and education in health sciences. The faculty is committed to research and research–led learning and teaching in a multidisciplinary context.

Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) provides public health services in the Local Government Areas of Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Manly, Pittwater, Warringah, Ryde, Mosman, North Sydney, Willoughby, Lane Cove and Hunter’s Hill. With a growing and diverse workforce of approximately 8350 employees, NSLHD provides a wide range of public health services to a population of approximately 840,000. While Royal North Shore Hospital is the major referral and teaching hospital, Ryde, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai, Macquarie, Manly and Mona Vale hospitals play an integral role in acute service delivery and the training of clinicians. Allied Health professionals constitute 11% of the NSLHD workforce and provide a broad range of services in their own specialist clinics or as part of multidisciplinary teams.

This conjoint professorial position is a component of a strategic partnership between the FHS and NSLHD. The objective of the Northern Sydney LHD and the University of Sydney Allied Health Partnership is to enhance research capability within allied health and ensure translation of research into practice. The partnership is committed to enhancing the health of people in the Northern Sydney LHD through patient-centred care that is grounded in scientific evidence, sharing knowledge and skills and preparing work ready allied health professionals. The work of this professorial appointment will be focused on contributing to the evidence base about effective allied health services. As the successful applicant, you will work closely with NSLHD allied health staff to build the research capacity of allied health clinicians and lead and integrate research from the FHS into NSLHD. You will be co-located at the University of Sydney and Northern Sydney LHD and be responsible to the Dean (FHS), University of Sydney, and to the Director, Allied Health (NSLHD).

You will work alongside a passionate team of clinicians and researchers in the various allied health disciplines and pursue a research program. The appointee will teach in their relevant field, as well as supervise postgraduate research students and contribute to the discipline’s academic programs. 

Term

The successful applicant will be offered a 5 year fixed term as Professor of Allied Health, and a competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
