A variety of posts have been created at UCLan’s Westlakes campus to form an interdisciplinary team who will be involved in high impact outcome-orientated research, teaching, publication and knowledge transfer engaging with collaborating organisations in public, private and social sectors and dissemination at regional, national and international levels.
These posts represent a unique opportunity to undertake a highly career-relevant job in a specific discipline in a wider, applied setting and be centrally involved in the design and implementation of the wider integrated research, dissemination and knowledge transfer programme as a member of one of the UKs largest universities. They have been created as part of a major investment by UCLan and the Samuel Lindow Foundation who are jointly developing a new initiative at the UCLan facility on Westlakes Science and technology Park near Whitehaven in West Cumbria.
Located in North West England, the West Cumbria area is a distinctive location with multinational high tech engineering and design companies and research facilities associated with the nuclear industry. Within this area of high landscape value there exists a rich heritage and social diversity and all of these issues have created significant issues in public policy and service design and delivery. UCLan’s connections with policy and practitioner organisations in all of these areas embed the researchers in powerful networks and give privileged access to original data and a publication programme including four seminars at Westminster in each year.
The Lecturer in Innovation and enterprise post will be located institutionally in UCLan’s Centre for SME Development within the College of Business Law and Applied Social Studies. Duties will include leading the delivery of an undergraduate module in innovation and enterprise, contributing to wider module and course development and management as well as act as a module leader for a number of identified modules. Offered to students from UCLan Preston this short, intensive module will engage students with collaborators in an authentic customer-facing setting working within UCLan’s Centre for SME Development.
Experience of teaching a business related subject in a higher education environment, knowledge of university and academic processes and experience of working in or with organisations in public, private and social sectors are essential requirements for this position. The successful applicant must have a good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant area and a PhD in a relevant discipline or substantial evidence of equivalent experience.
Utilising excellent communication and presentation skills, the successful applicant will demonstrate a flexible and innovative approach to teaching and learning and have an ability to liaise with external collaborators in a variety of settings. In addition, an ability to undertake research/knowledge transfer and work on own initiative and as part of a team are also core skills required for this post.
