The Widening Participation Unit at Macquarie runs a broad range of LEAP (Learning, Education, Aspiration, Participation) working with students of various ages towards goals beyond their school years. Their achieve this through activities such as mentoring students from refugee backgrounds, exploring a series of topics with rural and remote students via video conferencing, taking Macquarie University academics into schools to run interactive sessions for students across a range of year groups, and much more. LEAP Program participants come from diverse backgrounds traditionally defined as disadvantaged, including students from low socio-economic (low SES) background, rural and remote students, refugee students, women in non-traditional areas of study, and mature age students who do not enter university directly after completing school.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Project Officer to provide support to implement LEAP initiatives in schools and communities, with the aim of increasing participation by students from regional and remote areas in higher education, and to support students in their transition to Macquarie University.

Reporting to the Director, Widening Participation, the successful candidates will:

  • Organise and deliver engagement activities in regional and remote schools including campus visits by partner schools;
  • Organise, deliver and evaluate activities in partnership with the Country Education Foundation of Australia;
  • Develop, implement and monitor programs to support students from regional and remote areas in their transition to Macquarie University.

Selection Criteria

  • Degree in education, community work, social work or related discipline and/ or equivalent work experience;
  • Experience working effectively with students from regional and remote areas;
  • Experience in developing and implementing school and community engagement programs;
  • Experience in gathering, collating and reporting on data to meet government requirements;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NSW secondary and tertiary education systems;
  • Knowledge of issues affecting students from regional and remote areas;
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience building and managing partnerships and relationships;
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team.

Working with Children Check Clearance

Employment in this position is conditional upon holding a Working with Children Check Clearance.

Salary Package: From $ 77,894 to $ 85,982 p.a. (HEW Level 6), plus 9.5% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.

Appointment Type: Full-time, fixed term to 31 December 2017.
