Description of Work Unit
The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences (ERHS) houses academic, research and clinical programs that address the promotion of human and animal health. The mission of the department is to deliver excellent education in environmental and radiological health to prepare students to contribute to society; to conduct state of the art research in human and animal health focusing on environmental exposures and clinical applications; and to promote excellence in outreach and service to the citizens of Colorado, the United States, and globally through information transfer, research, continuing education and technical assistance. ERHS is unique in its multifactorial approach to disease that involves chemical, physical, and biological factors. ERHS provides undergraduate and graduate programs leading to BS, MS and PhD degrees.
Our internationally recognized veterinary diagnostic imaging program is comprised of seven faculty radiologists, three-five veterinary residents, nine technologists, two office staff, and a PACS administrator. The program is located in the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) in Fort Collins, Colorado, with an annual imaging caseload of nearly 16,000.
The VDI Manager is under the supervision of the Business Officer in Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences (ERHS) and the Clinical Section Chief for Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (VDI). The Manager provides administrative support for the technical and office staff, PACS administrator, and other administrative professionals employed in the section. The position is responsible for planning and organizing the staff named above and serves as team leader as well as utilizing equipment and supplies to meet the needs and demands of the VTH and DVM education, research, and clinical service programs. In addition, the Manager assists with the establishment, interpretation, and application of the section budget.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 10 years of progressively responsible experience demonstrated in the areas identified in the Essential Job Duties section, or Master’s degree in a related field plus 5 years of progressively responsible experience demonstrated in the areas identified in the Essential Job Duties section
Experience with supervision, employee counseling, and mentoring.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Strong communication and people skills along with proven success in business management
Demonstrated history of working well in a team environment
Ability to manage relationships with staff, clinicians, and personnel associated with the VTH and College
Strong attention to detail and ability to coordinate, motivate, and train others as required
Experience as a manager or facilitator in a medical/imaging environment

Job Duty Category Supervision Duty/Responsibility
Position will supervise the administrative staff and clinical technologists associated with delivery of service in radiology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, MRI and PET/CT.
Supervision of departmental personnel to include duty assignments, daily work and leave schedules, and mid-year evaluations and annual performance evaluations. conduct human resources needs of the section, such as hire and discipline of personnel as indicated. Guide, mentor, and develop the staff to achieve quality patient care and excellent client service as well as helping staff achieve performance goals and opportunities.
Percentage Of Time 60 Job Duty Category VDI Management Duty/Responsibility
Position will assist with the financial oversight working in collaboration with the ERHS Business Officer, organize major equipment purchases, investigate and negotiate maintenance and service contracts as approved by the Clinical Section Chief.
Position will organize and coordinate clinical and research work flow, internally and with other areas of the VTH, and initiate process improvements where opportunities arise. Position will assist the Clinical Section Chief with other administrative issues as required or requested.
Participate in meetings called by the VDI section to enhance radiology services. Participate in VTH hospital-related and supervisor meetings to keep the VDI section and ERHS department apprised of hospital operations and updates.
Percentage Of Time 20 Job Duty Category Administrative Oversight Duty/Responsibility
Position will serve as a liaison with the leadership of the VTH to enhance overall hospital operations and integration of the VDI service and serve as the primary contact to the VTH administrative staff in matters related to fees, client charges and other administrative issues as they arise.
Evaluate, plan, direct, and supervise all administrative aspects of the imaging section including services, programs, and staff evaluations to maintain a high standard of quality. Advise leadership on business decision-making practices.
Maintain meeting schedules within the department, i.e. technologists, administrative professionals, office staff, and radiology assistants as necessary.
Oversight of section finances and budgetary issues.
