Undergraduate degrees are offered in Mathematics, Statistics, and Analytics. At the masters level more than 200 students are enrolled in coursework programs in Analytics, Operations Research, and Information Security. We have an excellent relationship with our many industry partners. All our programs offer opportunities for Work Integrated Learning and we are partners in the ATN Industry Doctoral Training Centre for Mathematics and Statistics. We strive to produce graduates that are job ready, underpinning industry-relevant training with a solid theoretical foundation. The discipline is also a key provider of enabling courses to other programs offered by the University.
Mathematical Sciences comprises 32 academic staff, several of whom are well-qualified recent appointments. RMIT is a founding member of the Australasian Mathematical Sciences Institute.
The Associate Dean, Mathematical Sciences provides academic and tactical leadership for staff within the discipline area. The incumbent works closely with the Deputy Dean, Learning & Teaching and the Deputy Dean, Research & Innovation to ensure that research, research training and teaching activities within the discipline are aligned with School and College objectives, targets, standards and workload models.
The Associate Dean is responsible for leading, managing and developing the academic staff of the discipline to deliver on the College research and research training strategy and the College learning and teaching strategy, and to contribute to the development of the relevant disciplines and RMIT's standing in relation to them.
The position requires the incumbent to lead, influence, facilitate and mentor, as well as develop strategy and implement and manage change. The Associate Dean is a member of the School Executive and is required to work collaboratively with all members of the School management team and with staff across the school, College and University to ensure that the School achieves its strategic objectives.
Skills & Experience Required
You will be able to demonstrate success and a standing in internationally recognised research in a scholarship relevant to the College of Science, Engineering and Health, in the relevant discipline areas. You will have a strong record of innovative teaching in a discipline relevant to the School underpinned by a deep understanding of contemporary Learning and Teaching theory. A demonstrated capacity to think strategically and to act tactically based on organisational priorities and objectives, along with a strong knowledge and understanding of relevant industry and training priorities will be essential to your success in the role.
