The College of Liberal Arts is the largest college at Colorado State University with over 4500 undergraduate and 600 graduate students in 13 departments. The development office develops and maintains relationships with alumni and friends to garner support for scholarships, research, and programs that are integral to ensuring a quality education for Liberal Arts students and advancing the College’s research, teaching, and artistry efforts. The development office works with the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Liberal Arts faculty and staff, and various campus partners to lead, create, and implement successful development strategies that are a framework for future growth.
The Assistant Director of Development in the College of Liberal Arts reports directly to the Director of Development.
The Assistant Director of Development is part of a holistic team of four, and will work with the team, Director of Development, Dean of the College, and Liberal Arts academic units through the critical role of implementing and maintaining a vibrant foundational fundraising and development communications program for the College and its 13 academic units. This position is responsible for building relationships with the College’s wide audience base via planning, execution, and management of direct mail and e-mail with a goal developing the audience base in order to acquisition, retain, and increase gifts to the College of Liberal Arts. This position also manages development-based content and communication projects such newsletter stories, web site articles, invitations, acknowledgement letters, email communications, award nominations, online giving messages, and collaborates with faculty to support grant-writing efforts. The position reports directly to the Director of Development within the College, and works closely with University Advancement team and the CSU Foundation.
Required Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of two (2) years fundraising experience or experience in a fundraising environment including clearly demonstrated success within annual gifts, membership, communications, or frontline fundraising
• Ability to work non-standard hours and potential national travel
Preferred Job Qualifications
• Strong experience with or understanding of the liberal arts
• Experience with direct mail and online giving
• Demonstrated experience with strategic planning process and goal setting for initiatives that amplify the Colleges fundraising programs
• Clearly demonstrated project management, and ability to successfully manage multiple priorities while including necessary staff and units
• Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative metrics for making data driven decisions
• Skill, ability, and passion for maintaining positive relationships both internally and externally
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Must be able to problem-solve and troubleshoot
• Enjoy working independently in a team-oriented and collaborative environment
• Ability to work effectively with academic and administrative leaders as well as alumni and donors to achieve fundraising goals
• Ability and willingness to respond and adapt to changing situations appropriately, while maintaining openness to new ideas

Job Duty Category Direct Mail and Email Strategies, Annual Giving -Level Gifts, Event Sponsorship Duty/Responsibility
Carries a portfolio of donors, by soliciting (usually under $25,000), membership, sponsorship, and scholarship gifts.
Oversee and direct annual giving activities for the college. Responsible for creating/coordinating mass mailing messages in conjunction with CSU’s Annual Giving office and Call-A-Ram Program.
Streamline practices related to annual gifts received by donors to the college by capitalizing on the arts venues and other areas of donor interest.
Create best practices in the annual gift area in order to retain and increase giving leading to strengthening the major gifts pipeline, (usually over $25,000).
Create a strategic plan for solicitation; conceptualize, plan and schedule direct mail and email solicitations intended for target audiences within the College of Liberal Arts.
Develop a consistent model for segmentation and data strategy.
Gather and write content for communication pieces to potential donors by clearly demonstrating the voice of the College of Liberal Arts.
Collaborate with leadership, colleagues in CLA and central units to generate an effective solicitation schedule.
Facilitates and builds relationships with donors, prospects, faculty and staff, foundations, corporations and potential supporters relevant to the College of Liberal Arts. Ability to understand the cultivation-solicitation process and make gift solicitations appropriate to prospects.

• Produces content for development-related communications, including direct mail and e-mail solicitations, newsletter stories, web site articles, invitations, acknowledgement letters, email communications, award nominations, and online giving messages.
• Manages development-related content and advertising on all websites and college publications such as programs, screens, and newsletters
• Responsible to facilitate the internal process for printing fundraising pieces that need to be posted, or distributed.
• Communicates key messages and information regularly to internal and external audiences.
• Collaborate with development team to develop strategies to engage targeted audiences in a comprehensive and consistent manner related to fundraising and donor discovery, engagement, and stewardship.
Percentage Of Time 25% Job Duty Category Grant Writing/Corporate Proposals/Event Fundraising Support Duty/Responsibility
• Collaborate with DoD and Associate Dean of Research to increase awareness and provide assistance with potential grant opportunities. Collaborate with faculty to strategize and achieve success with grant applications
• Has authority to advise on planning and materials for special programming such as Great Conversations and Rams JD
• Collaborate with development team to manage committee duties and relationship related to special programs
