The development office develops and maintains relationships with alumni and friends to garner support for scholarships, research, and programs that are integral to ensuring a quality education for Liberal Arts students and advancing the College’s research, teaching, and artistry efforts. The development office works with the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Liberal Arts faculty and staff, and various campus partners to lead, create, and implement successful development strategies that are a framework for future growth.
The Associate Director of Development in the College of Liberal Arts reports directly to the Director of Development.
The Associate Director of Development is part of a holistic team of four, and will work with the team, Director of Development, Dean of the College, and Liberal Arts academic units to build relationships, cultivate and generate financial support, and steward gifts from alumni, friends, foundations, and corporations for the programs within the College of Liberal Arts. The Associate Director will focus on major gift fundraising at the $50,000 level and greater and will be responsible for creating and implementing a strategy and pipeline for strategic initiatives and campaign planning. The successful candidate must meet all required qualifications!
Required Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of three (3) years frontline fundraising experience, including a clear demonstrated success with securing major gifts of $25,000 or greater
• Willingness to work non-standard hours and travel nationally
Preferred Job Qualifications
• Strong experience with or understanding of the liberal arts
• Clearly demonstrated history of cultivating and successfully soliciting $50,000+ major gifts
• 5+ years professional experience
• Experience with major gift fundraising in higher education
• Strong understanding of all facets of fundraising including annual fund, corporate relations, foundation relations, planned giving, stewardship, and major gift fundraising
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Skill, ability, and passion for maintaining positive relationships both internally and externally
• Demonstrated experience with strategic planning and goal setting for major gift strategies and initiatives that would amplify the Colleges fundraising success
• Ability and willingness to respond and adapt to changing situations appropriately, while maintaining openness to new ideas
• Enjoy working independently in a team-oriented and collaborative environment
• Clearly demonstrated ability manage projects from start to finish while including the staff and units necessary to complete associated tasks
• Demonstrated experience collaborating with others to secure major gifts

Job Duty Category Major Gifts, College of Liberal Arts Duty/Responsibility
• Cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects to obtain gifts of $50,000 and above
• Write, prepare, and present persuasive proposals that match the donor’s interests with the College’s fundraising priorities. Proposals should be comprehensive, and include the donor’s interests
• Work closely with the faculty and staff to articulate the mission and vision of the College in order to obtain and maintain private support
• Collaborate and work in tandem with Director of Development to achieve the College’s annual fundraising goal; metrics executing a minimum of 180 current or prospective donor visits and a minimum of 24 proposals per year
• Prepare an overall strategy and pipeline for strategic initiatives, including a campaign plan
• Negotiates donor contracts and fund agreements with the CSU Foundation and with donors. Is solely responsible for bringing those to a close and completing all necessary components
• Secure gifts of cash, stock, bequests, etc. to the College via one/one cultivation as well as collaborating with central advancement teams including gift planning, principal gifts, and corporate and foundation relations
• Participate in division-wide strategy sessions, advocating for CLA, overseeing and managing follow-up tasks and action items as appropriate.
• Comply with University policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to solicitation and acceptance of gifts, naming, and alumni and support group interactions and activities.
• Work in cooperation with university central donor-related services and collaborate with central record keeping in compliance with university regulations, policies and procedures.
Percentage Of Time 75% Job Duty Category Faculty and Staff Relations Duty/Responsibility
• Collaborate with faculty and college leadership to communicate key messages and information to internal and external audiences for the purposes of major gift cultivation and solicitation
• Increase the involvement of faculty (both current and retired) in the development process in order to enlarge the number of people making philanthropic efforts on CSU’s behalf.
• Serves as a key member of the development team influencing and driving strategy, relationships, and best practices to accomplish goals
Percentage Of Time 15% Job Duty Category Impact and Budget Duty/Responsibility
• Responsible for managing allocated portion of unit budget totaling $65K+ for travel and expenses related to donor cultivation and solicitation
• Make recommendations to the Director whether to implement a new plan of action for a specific development activity or to discontinue an existing one
• Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and adhere to the policies and procedures for accepting, recording and acknowledging gifts.
• Works directly with faculty and the dean to enhance programs that will benefit students and faculty
