Lecturer/Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Film and New Media

NYU Abu Dhabi

The Film and New Media Program at NYU Abu Dhabi is currently inviting applications for a full-time non-tenure track, open-rank multi-year position in documentary filmmaking, to begin Fall 2017. We are looking for an established filmmaker with experience teaching documentary and narrative filmmaking from beginning to advanced levels. Demonstrated professional and teaching ability in screenwriting and photography would be advantageous. Written and oral fluency in English is required. Experience developing course materials is required. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and students in a multicultural education setting. The successful candidate will teach in the Film and New Media Program, advise students, and participate fully in University and program service.

The Film and New Media Program at NYUAD integrates the making of film and new media with the study of their histories, conventions, and practices. Students take both practice and studies courses, and finish their degree with a Capstone project that reflects the historical and cultural contexts of their interests and studies. Students and faculty work in state-of-the-art facilities and have access to a wide-range of filmmaking equipment and experiences. The program introduces and links students to some of the largest and oldest film industries from around the world and serves as a vibrant training ground for makers, curators and students of film and new media.

Candidates for this position should hold an MFA or equivalent degree and/or have extensive professional experience, as well as significant experience teaching in internationally recognized film and new media programs and/or liberal arts universities. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a document with links to two different types of produced films (e.g. short documentary, feature documentary, feature narrative, etc.), evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g. student feedback), three letters of reference and two syllabi for filmmaking courses.

Review of applications will continue throughout the year until the position is filled. Due to the high volume of applications, only those selected for interview will be contacted. Hiring for this position is subject to final budgetary approval.
