New York University (NYU) has established a global study away site in Sydney. Other NYU global academic centres are located in London, Paris, Florence, Tel Aviv, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Berlin, Prague, Accra, and Washington DC. NYU sends more students to study abroad than any other U.S. college or university.

We are seeking expressions of interest from Sydney-based academics to teach Physics  to undergraduate students during the NYU semester running from 31 Jan - 17 May 2017. The semester is 14 weeks long with a one week break from 14-18 March.

Experience and Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD in Physics and experience teaching undergraduate students in this field.

The class being offered is an introduction to electricity and magnetism, light, geometrical and wave optics and uses concepts such as position, velocity, acceleration, force, Newton’s laws of motion, work, and energy. The course has lecture, online homework and laboratory portions. Students will develop a conceptual understanding of the underlying physical principles and apply this to specific situations such as basic circuits and electrical devices, or the behaviour of light in terms of refraction, diffraction and interference.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointed person will take responsibility for preparing the weekly lectures, recitations and laboratory classes and assignments.

Weekly lectures will be conducted on Tuesdays from 2-5pm followed by recitation session from 5.30-6.30pm. These will be held at the NYU Sydney Academic Centre located in The Rocks. Labs are held in Ultimo on Wednesday afternoons from 4-6pm.

Lecturers are paid at competitive casual academic rates aligned with local enterprise agreements. In addition to their teaching duties, they will be paid to attend an induction meeting during the Orientation week prior and for periodic meetings and training.
