President & CEO
President & CEO
Canada Foundation for Innovation
Research is evolving on a global scale. Governments around the world, including Canada’s, are devising strategies to strengthen their research and innovation performance. Investments by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) have helped make Canada a hub of discovery and innovation and a shining example of the positive impact and return that research support can have on the everyday life of Canadians. The role of President & CEO offers an exceptional and rare opportunity for an accomplished leader to shine an even brighter light on future generations of Canadian researchers and innovators.
For two decades, CFI has built on the ideals of thinking big and investing in areas that matter to all of us. CFI has ensured Canadian researchers have the tools — the cutting-edge laboratories, facilities and equipment — they need to push the frontiers of knowledge in all disciplines, and to contribute to the full spectrum of research — from discovery to technology development to commercialization and application. This approach has allowed Canada’s brightest minds to contribute to better health outcomes, a cleaner, greener environment, evidence-based policy-making and the global competitiveness of Canadian businesses.
As President & CEO, you will build on CFI’s success and further enhance its national reputation and Canada’s global profile. In close collaboration with stakeholders, you will lead the development of a bold and integrated vision and strategy for research and research infrastructure funding in Canada that is embraced by the public, private and non-profit sectors. Focused on outcomes and impact, you will drive strategies and policies to support a sustainable and globally competitive research enterprise that contributes to the prosperity, wellbeing and quality of life of Canadians. To this end, you will partner with stakeholders involved in Canada’s R&D enterprise including governments, federal and provincial granting agencies, universities, colleges, polytechnics, research hospitals and private industry.
As the ideal candidate, you are an inclusive, consultative and results-oriented leader who appreciates the power and impact of collaborative vision building. Your team describes you as a skilled and inspiring communicator and mentor who creates a high performing culture that promotes transparency, accountability, research excellence, and client service. A credible advocate and an engaging partner, you foster meaningful relationships, with governments and stakeholders, founded on mutual respect, trust and open communications. As a thought-leader, you have a respected public presence, a passion for integrated research and the expertise to drive change at a national and global level. Your ability to communicate in both official languages will be an asset, as will your mix of experience in academic and industry leadership.
If you are a respected leader interested in this unique, nation-building role, please send your cover letter and résumé in confidence to Michael Naufal at firstname.lastname@example.org of Boyden global executive search.
CFI hires on the basis of merit. All qualified candidates are therefore encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. CFI is also committed to the principle of equity in employment, welcomes diversity and encourages applications from all qualified women and men, including persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities, and members of Canada’s First Nations.
