Applications are invited for one to two postdoctoral positions for developing compressive sensing (CS) algorithms in support of two Phase II Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs being conducted in collaboration with a Massachusetts-based small business. The program thrust areas are flash imaging LIDAR and longwave infrared hyperspectral imaging – each based on a single pixel architecture and CS. The candidate will work closely the small business and university investigators to develop and apply optimization algorithms customized to each specific sensing application and sensor hardware. The successful candidate will be responsible for optimizing the Compressive Sensing algorithm for speed and real time operation. Travel to the small business for status meetings and system integration is expected once or twice per year. All candidates must be eligible to work in the United States at the time of application.
Required Job Qualifications
1) Eligible to work in the United States at the time of application.
2) PhD in Applied Mathematics or related field
3) Computer Programming experience in MATLAB
Preferred Job Qualifications
A background in optimization algorithms, e.g., l1-norm optimization, and programming experience in C++ and CUDA

Job Duty Category Research Duty/Responsibility
On a continuing basis, the postdoc will pursue collaborative research on the topic of compressive sensing related to single pixel imaging as it can be applied to LIDAR and hyperspectral imaging. The postdoc will be responsible for implementation and testing of algorithms in the context of flash imaging LIDAR and/or longwave infrared hyperspectral imaging and will meet weekly with the research being directed by Prof. Kirby to discuss approaches and procedures and to refine and accelerated solution methods.
On a regular basis, the postdoc will present his or her research to the team and other audiences as deemed appropriate.
Percentage Of Time 75% Job Duty Category Teaching Duty/Responsibility
This position may teach a mixture of university level service courses and other courses for our Mathematics Majors. To be qualified to teach some of these courses, the employee needs to have a PhD degree. This position could possibly teach 1 course per year depending on needs of the department.
