Background

The Planning Office is responsible for the compilation of External Returns, the development of student recruitment targets (Student Number Planning) and the production of sophisticated Management Information and Business Intelligence. The Planning Office is composed of a team of six full time staff (including this post) and is led by the Assistant Director of Finance (Student Number Planning and Reporting).

The Role

The post holder will be responsible for the compilation of the HESA Key Information Set return and assisting the External Returns Manager in the compilation of a range of other External Returns to HESA, HEFCE and other bodies. They will also be responsible for the development and maintenance of technical processes to support the compilation of all External Returns within the remit of the team.

The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring that student record data is maintained in a manner that facilitates the compilation of accurate and valid External Returns, performing or coordinating updates to student record data where appropriate. They will be expected to operate with high levels of professionalism, integrity and positivity, promoting the importance of student record data.

This role provides an opportunity to develop a career within the field of Higher Education planning and in particular the area of External Returns to agencies such as HESA and HEFCE. It will also allow the post holder to develop highly sought after technical skills in data manipulation and analysis using technologies such as SAS.

Requirements

The successful candidate will need to hold a Bachelor degree (or possess relevant practical experience) and will have experience of using Microsoft Excel and Access (or similar software) to sort, filter, link and manipulate data. They will also have an understanding of querying relational databases to extract data.

Previous experience of the HE sector and of using student record systems is an advantage but is not essential as full training will be provided. The successful candidate will have a highly professional and positive approach to their work and to their interaction with others, in addition to being excellent team players.
