This employee will be responsible for computational analysis of existing bioinformatics datasets. These datasets consist of measurements of cellular gene expression. Specifically, gene expression profiles of cells prepared by CReM investigators will be analyzed by this analyst using computational methods, including preparation of lists of differentially expressed genes and figures summarizing this analysis to be used in presentations, grant applications, and publications. Typical datasets employed were prepared from Affymetrix gene expression microarrays or RNA sequencing of mammalian cells or tissues that have been exposed to various experimental conditions.
Doctorate in bioinformatics is preferred for this position.
This candidate should be familiar with the following techniques employed in standard computational analyses of gene expression data: processing, genomic alignment and normalization of genomic data, principle components analysis of variance, familiarity with computer R coding to employ basic statistical tests such as ANOVA and t tests to prepare lists of differentially expressed genes with p values adjusted for false discovery rate, gene clustering analysis, heat maps, and preparation of excel files summarizing these results. A PhD in bioinformatics is preferred for this position.
