Water Management for Sustainable Crop Production in a Changing Climate

A post-doc position in Agricultural Water Management is available at the Department of Soil and Environment within the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala. This announcement is part of a major promotion of post-docs at the Faculty. The Department of Soil and Environment pursues research, education and environmental assessment work related to soil and its sustainable use. The majority of the department’s operations and employees are located in Uppsala, but some activities are carried out in Skara. The research topic of agricultural water management at the Division of Soil Physics encompasses hydrological processes in soil and technical measures to optimise water management for sustainable agricultural production.

Duties: The holder of this post-doc position will conduct research within the field of agricultural water management with emphasis on sustainable crop production in a changing climate, specifically focusing on climate adaption of techniques for land drainage, water supply and supplemental irrigation. The tasks include developing methods for field, laboratory and data analysis. The position will be linked to other ongoing projects. Participation in teaching in one or more of the courses in this research topic is included.

Qualifications: The applicant should hold a PhD in soil science specialising in soil physics/agricultural water management, or equivalent, and have experience of working with models for water management at field level, with statistical methods, especially time series analysis, and preferably also with GIS tools. Previous experience of working in field and laboratory and of teaching is required. Experience of management and analysis of large datasets is an advantage. The applicant will need to have a good ability to cooperate and to work independently and in groups and be proficient in Swedish and English, both in speech and writing. The position requires a driving licence. A postdoctoral position is a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, intended primarily for those who have obtained a doctorate within the past three years.
