Appointment of Professor and Head of School of Economics

Economics has been studied at the University of Edinburgh for two hundred years; encouraging students to develop their interest in domestic and international economy, and since 2009 the School of Economics has developed into one of the leading groups of economic theorists in Europe. With a community of over 60, including 15 Professors, it provides undergraduate education to over 1,000 students, is the base for the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics with two taught masters and a strong PhD programme. The School is characterised by its cohesiveness and informal research-led collegiality, with high quality research seminars and workshop programmes running on a weekly basis.

The School now seeks a new Head to continue to develop and advance the quality of its education and research. The successful candidate will be an internationally recognized economist with proven leadership credentials. They will support a positive and collegiate environment that promotes and supports equality, diversity and inclusion and places emphasis on open communication, where all students and members of staff are engaged and their contributions are encouraged and recognized and manage the School’s resources so as to develop the School in line with overall College and University strategy, champion the development of constructive working relationships between the School and colleagues in other parts of the University.
