Transformational role for an experienced Employee Relations professional.

Charles Darwin University has now been ranked in the top 2 percent of universities in the world, it is a multisector institution, delivering higher and vocational education and has an impressive research track record. The University is embarking on a new 10-15 year strategy to help transform the region and high quality people management support is an essential component.

CDU has recognised the importance of good people management to its future success and now seeks to appoint a highly capable senior leader with significant employee relations background to the Office of People and Capability (OPC). The role will work with the leadership team of OPC to ensure that CDU is a great place to work and to achieve University goals through people. There will be increased emphasis on customer service, leadership and professional development, shaping organisational culture, strategic recruitment, maximising staff performance and effective issue management. The Deputy Director is a key player in developing employee relations strategy and advising on the employment law framework in achieving these goals.

The Deputy Director will preferably hold a degree in law or have significant leadership experience in employee relations and an appropriate degree. The role will manage the University’s industrial strategy and framework and manage complex cases with the assistance of a small team, the person is also responsible for building ER capability within the Office of People and Capability and in university leaders.

This is a role for an experienced senior employee relations leader who has high standards, understands how the industrial framework fits within a quality human resource management function, thrives on change and innovation, understands and promotes development of capability, and is passionate about making CDU as good as it can be.
