The Department of Computer Science is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (or, for exceptional candidates, a Senior Lecturer) to a newly-created post, the Thomson Reuters Lecturer in Financial Informatics and Data Science. Candidates are sought with expertise and research interests in analysis of large-scale linked data systems, network analysis & visualization, and graph databases, as applied to financial news, data and information systems. This appointment is part of our strategic plan to expand our long-established investment in large-scale data analytics and machine learning research as applied to financial systems.
The successful candidate will be expected to take a major role in strengthening and growing financial informatics research at Bristol. One key part of this strategy is to pursue collaborative research activity with Thomson Reuters, taking advantage of opportunities presented by their position as a major global provider of financial news and information.

You will have an outstanding research track record, undertaking innovative work that complements the School’s research in data analytics, machine learning, and large-scale complex IT systems, with application and impact in financial services. You will be attracting international recognition and will have published a significant number of high quality papers. You will have proven ability or potential to attract research funding from funding agencies and/or industry. You will be expected to take an active role in providing high quality and innovative teaching in areas of Computer Science according to your experience. It is expected that the successful candidate will actively contribute to our masters-level teaching in aspects of financial informatics, cloud computing, and data science; will work on the development of innovative new taught units; and will also be capable of fully engaging in teaching core undergraduate units.

This post is being offered on a full-time, open-ended contract.
