Vice-Chancellor
University of Hull

Having opened our doors more than 90 years ago, the University of Hull has earned a reputation as one of Britain’s finest teaching universities, providing a high-quality education and producing life-changing research. The University has an illustrious history, internationally recognised for its world changing contributions such as the development of Liquid Crystal Technology and bone density scanners, and the poetry of Philip Larkin, the University Librarian for over 30 years. As a principal partner of Hull, UK City of Culture 2017 and an integral part of the UK’s Energy Estuary, we are realising the benefits of a £200 million capital and academic investment programme. This is an exciting time for our University and the region that we are proud to be a part of.

With an operating turnover of £185 million and a 16,000 strong student community, the University is a major economic driver in the region, generating nearly £1 billion for the UK economy per year* and supporting 8000 jobs. Having achieved a position in the top 10 universities in the country for employability and becoming a top 50 institution for research power, coupled with accolades such as the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in recognition of the pioneering research of the Wilberforce Institute, we feel confidently positioned to navigate the challenges of the higher education landscape.

We are now seeking to appoint a new Vice-Chancellor to continue our investment-driven agenda for change. It is an agenda that will be delivered by our staff and it is crucial that you build on our core strengths and develop a compelling and ambitious vision, working with and through our dedicated teams. With an ambitious strategic plan that looks to further invest in the academic portfolio, develop our international outreach and empower students and staff, we are looking for an exceptional individual who will inspire, motivate and lead our institution as well as being a visible and persuasive ambassador for the University as we deliver our core mission of transforming lives.
