Preceptor in Statistical Methods and Mathematics
Harvard University Government Department invites applications for the full-time position of Preceptor in Statistical Methods and Mathematics beginning July 1, 2016. The preceptor is expected to design and teach courses in mathematical and statistical methods, and related computer support, for undergraduate and graduate students in social and health sciences, education, public policy and related areas. In addition, the Preceptor will work in collaboration with faculty to build infrastructure and support statistical and mathematical courses in the Government Department on the design of teaching software, coordination with computer support, creation of laboratory and discussion components, and the development and integration of innovative teaching materials. The position involves close collaboration with the Institute for Quantitative Social Science and includes pedagogical mentoring, advanced programming, sample creation, software testing and documentation, and curriculum research and design. Applicants are expected to have strong skills and familiarity with statistical methods and mathematical models in the social sciences. The Preceptor will act as a liaison between instructors, teaching assistants, IT staff, and data science consultants. The position is renewable on a yearly basis up to eight years, based on performance, enrollments, and curricular needs.
Master’s degree or Ph.D. with proven experience in one or more, statistics; mathematics; statistical software. Teaching experience is required.
