The School of Behavioural, Cognitive and Social Sciences (BCSS) offers undergraduate courses in Criminology, Psychology with Honours, Psychological Science, Social Science and Urban and Regional Planning. Students can major in Geography, Linguistics, Psychology and Sociology in the Bachelor of
Arts, Arts/Business, Arts/Science, or Arts/Law. Postgraduate courses include a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diplomas, Master of Arts, Master of Arts (Applied Linguistics), Master of Psychology (Clinical)
and PhD. BCSS offers opportunities for postgraduate research in the six broad disciplines of Criminology, Geography, Linguistics, Planning, Psychology and Sociology. The School?s strong research focus has
allowed for School-based research via three Research Centres and the Institute for Rural Futures. The appointees will join an enthusiastic and innovative team who teach and research across a range of areas:
the sociology of media and consumption; sociology of sex and sexuality; development studies; social and public policy; health and illness; family, inequality and environmental studies; forensic anthropology; and social theory and research. The successful applicants may be asked to supervise honours and HDR students and expected to pursue a program of research in his or her field. The position will commence in February 2017.

About the role
The Discipline of Sociology at UNE seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Sociology, Level C, who will teach and have a research and publication record in one or more of the following areas: Social Research Methods (especially mixed methods); Social Policy; Cultural Sociology, as well as other substantive disciplinary areas in Sociology, especially Family and Childhood; Media and Consumption; Youth Studies; Development and/or Environmental Studies. The Senior Lecturer position will also be expected to take on leadership roles within the School as required.

Skills & Experience
Applicants must have a PhD in an area relevant to the sociology programs at UNE. Specifically, this post requires teaching and research expertise in the general area of social research methods, especially the
use of mixed methods. Other essential criteria include an ability to teach online and a demonstrated research trajectory in relevant sociological fields. Desirable qualities of the successful candidate include experience in curriculum development, administration, undergraduate teaching and Honours and HDR supervision, and willingness to attract external research funding.
