LA TROBE UNIVERSITY – COLLEGE OF ARTS, SOCIAL SCIENCES AND COMMERCE

La Trobe University's success is driven by people who are committed to making a difference. They are creative and highly motivated, pursue new ideas and create knowledge. La Trobe is among the top 100 universities in the world under the age of 50 (Times Higher Education Rankings 2016), one of Australia's research leaders, and the largest provider of higher education to regional Victoria. Our teaching and research address some of the most significant issues of our time and we're passionate about driving change to benefit the communities we serve.

The Centre for Indigenous Story is a not-for-profit, collaborative and university‑wide initiative, located within the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Commerce (ASSC). The primary purpose of the centre is to generate, regenerate, host and disseminate Indigenous cultural knowledge and practices. It is an opportunity to gather, (re)generate, and host Indigenous stories through spoken word, in music, in film, in visual arts, writing, and all dynamic multimedia forms.

The role of the Director is to develop, build and promote the Centre into a world-class, multi- faceted facility for researching, practising and celebrating Australian Indigenous storytelling.

Reporting to the Pro-Vice Chancellor ASSC, you will hold a PhD or equivalent together with substantial research experience, publications and practice of Indigenous oral and written story.   You will have expert knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and practices, including knowledge production, maintenance and regeneration of culture along with evidence of an international reputation in Indigenous Arts Practice.  We are seeking those with significant national and international standing in the profession and who have the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities.
