Research Fellow in Medical Statistics

Job number: ACAD102302
Division/School: School of Social and Community Medicine
Contract type: Open ended contract staff
Working pattern: Full time
Salary £41,709 - £46,925 (Grade K)

We wish to appoint a Research Fellow in Medical Statistics to join the Centre for Academic Primary Care (CAPC) infection research group based in the School of Social and Community Medicine (SSCM) at the University of Bristol. This post represents an exciting opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic individual with a growing reputation in statistics to join a thriving group within one of the UKs leading centres for primary care and population research.

This new post is a reflection of the CAPC infection group’s success in securing substantial grant funding, the success of CAPC in renewing its membership of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research, and SSCM’s success in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF). We expect the post-holder to play a lead role in the CAPC infection group. S/he will lead the writing and delivery of substantial primary care infection research grants and build on existing successful collaborations, including: SSCM (including the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in evaluation of interventions and the Bristol Randomised Trials Collaboration), other University of Bristol infection researchers (including the veterinarians, mathematical modellers, microbiologists and dentists), and infection researchers in the NIHR School for Primary Care Research. Funding for this post is provided through a prestigious NIHR Research Professorship held by Professor Alastair Hay (CAPC’s infection research group lead) and the Avon Primary Care Research Collaborative (on behalf of the three local Clinical Commissioning Groups Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire).

Applicants’ experience and skills should support and complement the strengths of the CAPC infection group, and we particularly welcome applications from individuals with a track record in applied quantitative health research (including RCTs) and an interest in primary care infectious diseases/antimicrobial resistance research.

The post holder will be based in Canynge Hall, Whatley Road, Clifton, Bristol. For further information, please contact Prof Alastair Hay (alastair.hay@bristol.ac.uk or 0117 331 4554).

The post is offered at 1.0 FTE and is available from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2019 in the first instance.
