The University of Derby’s College of Engineering & Technology are seeking to appoint a new Head of Department - Mechanical Engineering & Built Environment.

The post holder will be responsible for leading, enhancing and growing the academic and business development of the Department, ensuring that the Department’s academic research and enterprise activity delivers the College’s strategic plans and the University’s corporate aims. You will work closely with the Dean, the Head of Department for Electronics, Computing & Mathematics, and the Management Team to develop business plans, as well as lead and inspire staff in the department to achieve high standards of research outputs quality and impact.

The post holder will possess a Higher Degree level qualification or equivalent within an academic discipline covered by the department, as well as a PhD within a relevant field, and a relevant Professional Qualification/Membership of a professional body. You will have significant management experience within a HE institution of a similar or lager size, extensive teaching experience within HE, and a good understanding of the sector and its current issues.

The candidate will be a highly regarded academic and people leader with a proven ability to deliver through people, and well-developed verbal and written communications skills including report writing. You will have the ability to enable and gain commitment to organisational change, as well as a commitment to live and promote the University core values.
