The department of Electrical Engineering (ISY) is central to the engineering education at the Institute of Technology, one of four faculties at Linköping University, and this regards both basic and applied knowledge. The research is based on industrial needs, and ranges from basic research to direct application in collaboration projects.

Energy-efficient High-speed Data Converters and Mixed Analog-Digital Integrated Circuits for Wideband Communications

The research work will be performed at Division of Integrated Circuits and Systems (http://www.ics.isy.liu.se/) which is an internationally recognized research group, with over 40 years of experience in design of advanced integrated circuits. The division has close collaboration with major semiconductor companies and academic research organizations worldwide.
The objective is research and development of energy-efficient high-speed data converters (ADCs/DACs) and other important mixed analog-digital circuits for wideband wireless or wired high-speed communication. Particularly, the focus will be on key design challenges for Multi-GHz wideband radio transceivers for emerging wireless communication standards such as 5G and short range mm-Wave radio links.
The project is expected to generate highly innovative circuits and systems solutions to be designed in advanced CMOS technologies, measured, verified and published in top international journals and conferences in the field.
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.
- General requirement: M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Specific requirements: The applicant is expected to meet the following requirements:
- Demonstrate a strong background knowledge and great interest in design of analog, digital, and radio frequency integrated circuits in advanced CMOS technologies.
- Have good knowledge and practical skills in circuit design, circuit simulations, and circuit layout, using professional computer aided circuit design tools.
- Have strong communication skills and good knowledge in English is a requirement. Good knowledge in Swedish is not a formal requirement but it will be considered as an additional merit.
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training.
The salary for PhD students is based on the department’s salary scale. Teh commencing salary for a graduate student is at present 28 500 SEK.
