Appointment of Head of the School of Social Sciences (College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences)

Within this dynamic context, we are now seeking to appoint an outstanding leader for our School of Social Sciences within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

The School of Social Sciences provides a dynamic and engaged teaching and research environment to over 250 staff, including over 30 professors and 60 researchers. We have approximately 1,200 undergraduate and postgraduate students and additionally deliver a range of professional programmes, including training for social work and teacher development opportunities. The School offers a wide range of degree programmes and benefits from academic expertise in a number of disciplines that include sociology, criminology, education, social work and policy studies. Strongly committed to inclusion and the student community, the School is also renowned for its theoretically informed, interdisciplinary research with a clear policy focus and is home to a number of world-leading research centres. In the 2014 REF, research in Education and Sociology was ranked 5th and 3rd in the UK respectively.

The successful candidate for this role will have an outstanding academic record in a relevant discipline and possess exceptional leadership and management capabilities alongside a track record of successful strategic delivery. They will have the personal authority, presence and expertise to represent the School and effectively further its general interests.
