The Global Development Portfolio is responsible for making RMIT genuinely global in operations and outlook. Under the leadership of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Development) and Vice President, the portfolio:
- leads and coordinates RMIT's global education partnerships,
- identifies, reviews and harnesses opportunities to further enhance RMIT's global model,
- coordinates enterprise-wide fundraising and alumni activities,
- manages global mobility opportunities for RMIT students.

The Associate Director, Alumni and Communications is a key member of the RMIT Alumni and Philanthropy leadership team. The role is responsible for leading and driving alumni engagement and overseeing delivery of donor/alumni communications activity enterprise-wide. This includes implementing the University's alumni strategy across all global entities, serving as the practise leader in alumni engagement for RMIT, coordinating policy and core procedures to enable best practise, and leading the evolution of RMIT's approach to engagement to lift alumni affinity and create a stand out program among peer institutions.
Harnessing digital technology platforms - both internally and via external sources - to deliver alumni engagement more effectively is critical to the role. The Assistant Director will be responsible for utilising a sound knowledge of digital communications and marketing to drive projects involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Building and managing relationships is a core part of the role. The incumbent will be responsible for representing RMIT and building relationships with alumni to support our endeavours and build connections across the globe. They will develop close connections with key internal and external digital platform providers to enable and activate a new alumni experience. They will maintain a strong network of partners across University colleges, schools and international entities that are supported and encouraged to build expertise and increase engagement opportunities. The role has management responsibility for a core team of nine staff. Supporting staff to deliver across a range of activities and modes and to continually build skills will be an ongoing skill set required in the role as technology continues to shape expectations and value propositions relating to external engagement.
The role manages the communications team, which services the Global Development Portfolio writ large. This includes delivery of regular e bulletins, reports, updates and campaigns, management of social media channels for alumni, as well as production of a suite of digital and print communications. The role provides insight, direction and coordination to maximise the effectiveness of communications to achieve goals.
The role is required to work closely with RMIT global entities to deliver locally appropriate alumni programming and communications that work to achieving institutional goals.
Skills & Experience required
A deep understanding of marketing and digital communications, the ability to operate strategically in complex environments and superior communication, management and influencing skills and experience working in cross cultural environments are fundamental to success in this role.
You must have experience delivering marketing campaigns and executing digital marketing strategies as well as experience managing and delivering effective communications and capacity to manage client expectations whilst driving plans that leverage communications' staff expertise
