Job Summary

The California Institute of Technology, Information Processing & Analysis Center (IPAC) is currently seeking a Senior Applications Developer.

Job Duties

Lead the Infrared Science Archive (IRSA) User Interface (UI) development team in the creation, deployment, and support of user interface applications fronting IRSA’s operational archives. Develop, deploy, operate, and support IRSA web applications, including IRSA’s large base of existing applications helping the scientific community to access the space mission archives from the internet. Collaborate closely and effectively with internal and external NASA/Infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC) teams that share existing interface technologies and develop resources with IRSA. Interpret science user needs into clean, efficient, and reliable solutions. Utilize Java, JavaScript, C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python and Perl in a Unix environment to develop user interfaces. Balance the demands of a dynamic working environment with multiple overlapping projects. Coordinate with customer project representatives and maintain the development and delivery of schedules. Mentor and advise a small team of UI developers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Astrophysics, Astronomy, or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in job offered, or as Software Developer, Science Operations Engineer, or related position(s).
  • Qualifying experience must include development of software for astronomical data processing and user interface and web applications; utilizing Java, JavaScript, C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python and Perl in a Unix environment; and web server administration and operation.
