Associate Professor in Health Analytics

The Questrom School of Business is seeking a tenured Associate Professor focused on health analytics to join the Information Systems Department and a new school wide mandate to support research that seeks substantive innovation and improvement in the health sector. There are many dimensions to the health sector and likewise there are a variety of areas that can be the focus of health analytics. Examples include: the support of product and life science innovation, health systems improvement and optimization, policy development, and the analysis of digital records on patient outcomes and behavioral change.
A PhD in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field is essential to signal a deep understanding of the power of analytics and experimentation using large data sets. Research skills across all aspects of the healthcare ecosystem are of interest, including but not limited to:
- Medical decision support and visualization techniques
- Clinical analytics, particularly as focused on optimizing medical operations
- Electronic medical records, data warehousing and data mining
- Predictive analytics and machine learning
- Risk analysis
In addition, the applicants will be expected to develop and teach courses focused on medical information systems and analytics, including relevant subjects such as statistical methods, design of experiments, electronic medical record systems, etc. One area where teaching responsibilities will be manifest is in Questrom’s top-rated Health Sector Management Program within its MBA degree offering. Opportunities will exist to help shape the curricula of this and related programs as they continue to grow and evolve.
Boston University has recently started the Institute of Health System Innovation and Policy that will facilitate collaboration across the Medical School, School of Public Health and the Questrom School to create multi-school and multi-disciplinary research conversations that are necessary to develop insight in how to generate change and innovation across all aspects of the health care system. This position in health analytics will have a strong affiliation with the Institute and the Institute will provide resources and leadership opportunities for passionate scholars to make significant contribution to driving improvement in the Health Sector.
