Natural Resources Data Manager
Description of Work Unit
The CNHP is a research and extension unit within the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology of the Warner College of Natural Resources. The CNHP is the state’s primary comprehensive biological diversity data center, gathering information and field observations to help develop statewide conservation priorities.
The Natural Resources Data Manager provides biological and technical support to the National Park Service’s Inventory and Monitoring Program. The NRDM utilizes biological knowledge and understanding of botany, ecology, and other natural resources to review and edit Monitoring and Inventory Program reports and data. The NRDM also uses knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing, and spatial databases to evaluate and edit spatial products (geodatabases, GIS maps, remotely sensed imagery, and pertinent metadata). The position also involves uploading approved data to the NPS IRMA web data portal for distribution to the public. The NRDM position will initially focus on products produced by the Vegetation Inventory Mapping Program and will over time support other I&M inventory programs as well.
Required Job Qualifications
BS/BA in botany, ecology, geospatial science or closely related field with botany or geospatial science emphasis + 3 years of experience or Master’s degree.
Demonstrated working knowledge of GIS data entry, spatial data management, and map production
Strong understanding of MS Access queries, forms, and reports.
Competence with Windows operating systems and MS Office applications.
Ability to handle multiple demands and set appropriate priorities
Excellent report writing and report editing skills are required
Must be able to write and speak clearly and accurately, and enthusiastically convey information to scientific and lay audiences. Must be able to communicate with stakeholders, identify their needs, and offer database and mapping solutions.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Minimum of two (2) years post-bachelors work experience demonstrating fluency using ESRI’s ArcGIS software and MS Access programs
Master’s degree with appropriate subject focus
Demonstrated experience multi-tasking by working on multiple projects at once
Ability to effectively review program reports and digital data products.
Basic understanding of MS Visual Basic programming for MS Access
Strong communication and organizational skills.

Utilize established data templates to upload approved reports and data to the NPS IRMA web portal so that they may be discoverable and available to the public.
