Keele University is renowned for its exciting approach to higher education, innovative research, beautiful campus, strong community spirit and excellent student experience.  With a turnover in excess of £134 million, 10,000 students and a total staff of approximately 2,000, the University provides high quality teaching and research across a wide range of academic disciplines.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences is embarking on an ambitious programme to develop and enhance its research portfolio. As part of a restructuring to accommodate strong student recruitment and a growing research profile, the Faculty seeks a new Head to lead the School of Geography, Geology and the Environment.  The successful candidate will be appointed as a Professor on an indefinite basis and have a strong research profile and leadership credentials. The appointment as Head, which carries an additional salary allowance, will be for three years in the first instance, with an option to extend for a further two years.

As a research leader in their own field, the successful candidate will lead the School in developing a visible and distinctive research identity which complements the established excellence of its learning and teaching environment. We welcome applications from candidates with research backgrounds that can help build upon the existing areas of strength within the School, including candidates with expertise in physical and human geography, geology/geoscience, environment and sustainability, and sustainable energy.

The newly formed School of Geography, Geology and the Environment is a growing and interdisciplinary home to 34 academic staff which delivers ten individual degree programmes to 460 undergraduate students, as well as a variety of taught Masters programmes. Both Physical Geography & Environmental Science and Geology are ranked 1st in the NSS.
