The Award winning Natural Resources Institute (NRI) ( is an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary centre of the University of Greenwich that undertakes research, consultancy and training to support sustainable development, food security, economic growth and poverty reduction in developing countries.  An opportunity has arisen for a business development economist with experience and vision to work with a small team of natural and social scientists to deliver research and consultancy services in the area of SME and market development in the agricultural and food sectors. 

You will support on-going collaborative programmes in a diverse range of countries and location to assist national and international organisations to develop capacity in SME, business and entrepreneurial sectors supporting the establishment and growth of enterprises using new and innovative technologies, developed by NRI and its partners.

The post requires someone who understands the role agribusiness can play in food security and economic growth, and who is willing to develop skills in a range of business development fields and apply them to practical developmental problems through research, consultancy and teaching. The successful candidate will join the Food and Markets Department, which has a well-established group working on many aspects of postharvest science (, and is particularly concerned with reducing postharvest losses and tackling global food waste. 

You will have a PhD or MBA, experience with postharvest development projects, and evidence of publication.  The position is based at our Medway Campus and will involve frequent short-term overseas travel.
