Imperial College London
Appointment of Dean, Faculty of Engineering
Competitive salary

Imperial College London is one of the world’s leading science-focused universities, committed to making advances in research and education and lasting contributions to society and with considerable ambition for its future. A multi-cultural, global institution in outlook and reach, and with an annual income of c. £970 million, Imperial has three faculties - Engineering, Medicine and Natural Sciences - and Imperial College Business School.
The College is now seeking to appoint a Dean to lead its Faculty of Engineering who will be responsible for providing the highest level of strategic leadership, planning and coordination, and for ensuring continuing excellence in research and education.

The Faculty has over 1,600 staff, 1,200 of whom are academic and research staff. With 3,800 undergraduate and 2,500 postgraduate students, and with a research income in excess of £100 million, it is home to ten departments and five major institutes and research centres. This concentration of expertise and talent offers significant opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaborations within the Faculty, across the wider College and internationally. In pursuing a truly multi-disciplinary approach, the Faculty addresses some of the world’s most challenging problems and provides a stimulating and rich learning environment for its students.

Reporting to the Provost, this senior College post holder will be a member of the President’s and Provost’s Boards and College Council, and will play an important role in setting wider College strategy and managing its implementation. The ability to work collaboratively, and to develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships, are pre-requisites.
Our next Dean of the Faculty of Engineering must possess significant leadership experience, an outstanding reputation in research in a relevant area and have considerable personal credibility to facilitate and influence the development of the Faculty’s growth and status and drive it forward as an exemplar.

With a well-developed understanding of the key opportunities and challenges in leading a world-class Faculty, the Dean will continue to promote innovation in education and research and foster and exploit relevant opportunities. As a senior post holder, the Dean will be a role model for Imperial Expectations, the College’s management principles.
